The home was built in 1912 for Sparrow's second wife. After he died his daughter was married to a Pulsifer and the home became known as the Pulsifer estate. In the 1950's the home was donated to the local school district for use due to the local school burning down. The home became an elementary school and was in operation for several years.

Heron House was an on-site cottage for the Coffins at Portledge. They would spend days at a stretch there during the hottest of the summer months. It was originally accessible via a winding carriage road, some of which comprises the current school's cross-country course.
